| THE ROYAL NZ FOUNDATION OF THE BLIND |
|
The Royal NZ Foundation of the Blind is The Real Thing's Charity of Choice for 2004 and is New Zealand 's primary service provider for blind, vision-impaired and deafblind people.
Every year nearly 1500 New Zealanders either go blind or experience serious sight loss. The Foundation empowers its 11,500 members to create new beginnings using adaptive skills, technologies and resources.
There are around 300 working guide dogs in New Zealand, all trained by the Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind's Guide Dog Services. The service has more than 40 full and part-time staff. Based in South Auckland , Guide Dog Services celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2003.
Guide dogs help a blind or vision-impaired person to get around safely, with greater speed and confidence. Guide dogs are trained to guide their handlers around hazards, negotiate traffic correctly, locate common destinations such as the supermarket, and travel on planes and buses. A unique and profound partnership develops based on mutual respect.
It costs around $22,500 to breed, raise, train and match a guide dog to a blind or vision-impaired person and is provided entirely free of charge. Costs are covered entirely by public donations, sponsorships and legacies. The Real Thing is working with the RNZFB by making monthly contributions from it's contractor margin to the foundation.

Children throughout New Zealand face a plethora of problems,
the following is just a snapshot of the problem that lives on
our own doorstep
- Up to 10,000 children a year experience some form of
violence in their own homes
- Between 1998 and 2001, 38 children died at the hands
of someone in their family circle (and that excludes those
who died through neglect)
- In low-income homes it is often too hard to get food
on the table, so medicines, decent shoes and warm clothing
often get put on hold
- In over-crowded homes children are so much more likely
to contract disease like Meningococcal, Rheumatic Fever
and Tb
Barnardos are the people that
can offer real help to these families. Barnardos has provided
help and support to nearly 6,000 children and young people
and 4,250 parents and families. One-on-one help is provided
through Family Support networks across the country; these
give families the necessary skills to budget and care for
each other, which has made a huge difference to families all
over the country.
Without public support none of this could happen. Fundraising
is necessary to support these and other essential services.
We believe Barnardos is a truly valid cause in New Zealand,
by conducting your business with Real you empower us to show
our ongoing financial support.
Pension Transfers Limited are a great addition
to Real’s service providers. Whether emigrated or returned
from your OE chances are you will have some pension tied up
in the UK system. Pensions Transfers provide a service specifically
for ex-UK residents (UK immigrants or returning New Zealanders)
who have entitlements or funds in a UK company pension scheme
or in a personal pension plan. They provide the facility to
transfer these funds to a registered superannuation scheme
in New Zealand. Pension Transfer will handle all documentation
and communication with the relevant authorities. This would
include obtaining an up-to-date transfer value from the UK
company pension scheme or personal pension plan and completion
of all forms required by the UK administrators.
Pension Transfers can also offer a full range of financial
services including investments, life, health and disability
insurances and mortgages.
